Christen Rune Stensvold is a senior scientist at the Department of Bacteria, Parasites & Fungi at Statens Serum Institut (SSI), Copenhagen, Denmark. His research focuses on the epidemiology, genetic diversity, and public health significance of common intestinal protists, particularly Blastocystis, Dientamoeba, and Entamoeba. He also investigates the detection of non-human eukaryotic DNA in stool samples and explores associations between gut parasites and bacteria.
Dr. Stensvold has completed his postdoctoral training at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. In April 2025, he defended his doctoral dissertation for the Doctor of Medical Science (dr.med.) degree, focusing on the genetic diversity and host specificity of intestinal protists.
Beyond research, Stensvold contributes to the development of diagnostic services and provides expert advice on parasitology diagnostics at SSI. His work has received funding from various national and international sources, including the Danish Research Council, Lundbeck, Marie Curie Actions (EU), Horizon 2020, EUopSTART, A.P. Møller, and the TRYG Foundation.
Dr. Christen Rune Stensvold contributes to WP1 in LEAPS.
