Paulo Goncalves (lead)

Paulo Gonçalves is Professor of System Dynamics and Management and Director of the Executive Master in Business Administration (EMBA) at the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), and a Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge Judge Business School (CJBS). He obtained his Ph.D. in Management Science and System Dynamics from MIT Sloan (2003) and his M.Sc. degree in Technology and Policy from MIT (1998).

Paulo’s research interests range from diffusion of epidemics to humanitarian operations. He was actively involved in modeling the diffusion of COVID-19 and identifying effective policies to prevent its spread, working with authorities in both Canton Ticino, Switzerland, and East of England, UK. His research has been published in top ranked academic journals including Production and Operations Management (POM), Manufacturing and Services Operations Management (MSOM), System Dynamics Review (SDR), INFORMS Journal on Applied Analytics, and high-impact practitioner journals such as California Management Review (CMR) and Sloan Management Review (SMR). He is former president of the System Dynamics Society (SDS) (2020-2022), Gert von Kortzfleisch Awardee (2022), senior editor of POM and SDR (from 2016), Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) Doctoral Dissertation Awardee (2004), and Intel Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Awardee (2003).
