Morten Rassmussen

Morten Rasmussen is Head of the Emerging Virus Genomics Unit at Statens Serum Institut (SSI), Copenhagen, Denmark, where he leads a team of scientists conducting cutting-edge research on emerging viral threats. Since joining SSI in 2016, Dr. Rasmussen has developed extensive expertise in metagenomic and whole-genome sequencing techniques. He played a key role in establishing the Danish national COVID-19 genome surveillance system and currently serves as the Danish Operational Contact Point for SARS-CoV-2 at the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

Dr. Rasmussen holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and an M.Sc. in Biochemistry from the University of Copenhagen. His scientific background encompasses postdoctoral research at both the University of Copenhagen and the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He is also actively involved in national and international collaborations, including having served as a work package leader for the OneHealth EU project Tele-Vir and currently contributing to the EU projects REACT, EU-WISH, and DURABLE.
