Emmanouil Angelakis

Dr. Emmanouil Angelakis is a Research Director at the Hellenic Pasteur Institute and a leading expert in clinical microbiology and infectious diseases. With a strong background in medical research and diagnostics, he currently serves as the Head of the Diagnostic Department at the Hellenic Pasteur Institute and leads the Hellenic National Reference Laboratories for Influenza (Southern Greece), Poliovirus/Enterovirus, and Measles/Rubella.

He earned his Medical Degree from the University of Medicine in Heraklion, Crete (2005), followed by specialization in Clinical Microbiology (2012). His expertise was further honed through his tenure as a hospital practitioner at the University Hospital Center La Timone in Marseille, France (2012–2018), where he also held an Associate Professorship in Clinical Microbiology at Aix-Marseille University (2016–2018). In 2018, he joined the Hellenic Pasteur Institute as a Major Researcher, later advancing to Head of the Diagnostic Department (2021) and ultimately to Research Director (2023).

Dr. Emmanouil Angelakis holds two PhDs—one from the University of Medicine in Heraklion (2009), where he studied fluoroquinolone resistance in Bartonella species, and another from Aix-Marseille University (2011), focusing on the impact of Lactobacillus species on metabolism and gut microbiome regulation.
